Songs for Peace Winter Concert Features New Composition for Peace
ChildrenSong of New Jersey invites you to their Winter Concert, entitled Songs for Peace, on Saturday, December 8, at 7:30pm.
The concert will feature the world premiere of Pillar of Peace, a work commissioned by the choir in memory of the terrorist attack on the United States of September 11.
Pillar of Peace was written by composer-in-residence Dean Rishel, a recent recipient of the Markeim Arts Center’s 2001 Applause Award for Music. Lyrics were created by chorister Dana Manochi, age 12. Dana is a member of the Concert Choir, ChildrenSong’s most advanced ensemble.
Also featured on the program are a variety of songs from around the world, all promoting peace. Traditional holiday carols will be heard as well.
The 120 youngsters, representing three performance levels, will sing and harmonize a wide variety of peace-related songs from around the world, including Amazing Grace, Down by the Riverside, Peaceful Silent Night, Hine Ma Tov, and Alshlosha.
Traditional holiday carols, including Sleigh Ride, Carol of the Bells, Children Go Where I Send Thee, and Christmas Lights (a medley of carols) will be heard as well. Also featured is The Friendly Beasts, with harp accompaniment by Bob Gardner.
The performance will be given at Haddonfield United Methodist Church, 29 Warwick Road, Haddonfield, beginning at 7:30pm.
Admission will be $10 per person at the door for adults. Admission is $5 for children between 6 and 12 and children 5 and under are free. Group rates are available and may be requested in advance by calling the chorus line at 856-216-1140.
The Methodist Church offers ample seating, excellent acoustics, free on-site parking, and wheelchair access.
ChildrenSong of New Jersey is a non-profit, regional children’s community chorus, founded and directed by Polly Murray. The Assistant director is Suzanne Purtee and Accompanist is Rob Kennan. Members range in age from 7 to 15, and represent three South Jersey counties.
Funding has been made possible through local arts program support of New Jersey State Council on the Arts through the Camden County Cultural and Heritage Commission, the designated county arts agency.
